N-Control Raceway in Austin, Texas
It seems that more and more across the US in particular, radio controlled car racing is becoming an accepted sport. Texas news network ‘News 8′ recently covered N-Control Raceway’s Off Road race event that took place in Round Rock.
At this specialised off-road track RC enthusiasts race cars that can travel on the faster side of 40mph, bouncing over the ramps and jumps on the off-road track.
N-Control Raceway’s Paul Gaertner said in an interview:
You’re looking at, in some cases, over two horse powers.
Rather than running on standard battery packs, the RC model cars run on nitromethane, which is more commonly used for RC planes.
The cars themselves are all customised and tuned for the races, costing the participants anything from a basic $200 for the kit, to something approaching $1,000 once they’ve had all of their accessories added.
I find that a lot of guys that do other physically competitive sports like downhill mountain biking or motocross turn to RC to meet their competitive needs, but without the physical risk.
You can watch a video of the event on the ‘News 8′ website, which features some action from the races themselves.
