Model RC planes stolen
Rick Maida of Morgan Hill, California, has had his prized collection of radio controlled planes stolen from outside his home. Rick is avid radio controlled model plane enthusiast and he kept his most valuable models in a trailer outside his house, and on Monday night this week his trailer was stolen, with the planes inside.
Rick takes his model planes very seriously, and counters any attempt to call the planes a hobby.
It’s not a hobby. It’s my life. It has been since I was 8 years old.
Rick is now in mourning over the loss of his beloved models, stolen from right outside his home.
I’m still numb from the whole thing.
The planes Maida, 51, builds are ‘large scale’ radio controlled planes, which makes them very impressive models. He even had a scale replica of a Finch Biplane from WWI which had a wingspan of ten feet… the model, not the real plane!
The models were in the trailer outside his house because he had just come home from an air show, where he had been showing off his aircraft, including the WWI biplane.
The cost of the stolen planes is thought by Rick to be $30,000.
Some of the items stolen include:
Relevant Products:A World War I Fleet Finch Biplane with a wingspan of 120 inches
A Focke-Wulf Fw 190 with an 86 inch wingspan
The 102 inch wing to a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.
The 98 inch wing to a Grumman F6F Hellcat
The 108 inch wing to a Chance Vought F4U Corsair
